Allow 4 hours for the Siberia Experience and 4.5 hours for the Siberia Experience Extended (with extended glacier scenic flight). The trip departure point is in Makarora and you should allow 1 hr to drive from Wanaka.
You can also choose to stay overnight at the Siberia Hut. Please contact us directly before booking for this multi day option.
We recommend you to bring your normal walking gear, a waterproof layer and a warm outer layer just in case.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. There is a shallow stream you cross at the start of the walk, so if you have a spare pair of sandals or shoes that you can get wet it is a good idea to bring them as well. Or you can borrow from our supply at our Makarora office when you check in.
Insect repellent, sunglasses and camera are recommended. Also anything else for your personal comfort.
The total trip time is 4 hours. Bringing along some snacks or lunch is a good idea.
We ask that you arrive at our Makarora office 30 minutes before your departure time. We also ask you to call our booking office on +64 (0)3 443 4385 on the morning of your trip for a weather check.
The check in location is at our Makarora Office located inside the Makarora Tourist Centre and Cafe. Address: 5944 Haast Pass-Makarora Rd. Makarora is situated on State Highway 6 on the eastern side of the Haast Pass and adjacent to the Makarora River. Allow 1 hour to drive from Wanaka or 2 hours from Queenstown.
Yes. It can be arranged with us that the jet boat will pick you up the next day, allowing time to stay overnight in the Siberia Valley. Please be aware the Siberia Hut beds are on a first come first serve basis and operated by the Department of Conservation.
You need a moderate level of fitness. If you can walk for three hours at a steady pace which includes up and down hill sections you should be able to walk the track.
